The campfire is the heart of every run in Dino Kid. Feed it Logs, Coal and rare fuels to level it up — each level pushes The Deer further away, reveals more map, and unlocks the four Firemaking badges worth 12 Diamonds. This guide breaks down every upgrade cost and how to farm each material.

Why the campfire is the real base
Your safe zone is defined by campfire level, not by walls. A higher fire means The Deer stays further out, more of your team fits inside the protected radius, and the map reveals further so resource runs get safer. On top of survival, the campfire is the gate to crafting upgrades and a steady Diamond income through its badges.
- ▸Larger safe zone radius — The Deer is pushed further from base.
- ▸New crafting unlocks — Taming Flute upgrade (Level 4+), Ammo Furnace.
- ▸Four Firemaking badges = 6★ and 12 Diamonds total.
- ▸Special campfire flames from Supply Crates (Daily Quests).
- ▸More map revealed per level — safer long-range resource runs.
Every campfire upgrade cost (Level 1 → 6)
Exact fuel costs per upgrade. “+” means you need at least that much — late upgrades often want a comfortable buffer. Oil Barrels only appear in the Volcanic Biome once your fire is Level 5–6.
| Upgrade | Logs | Coal | Fuel Cans | Oil Barrels | Biofuel | Badge |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 → 2 | 6 | 1 | — | — | 1–2 Wood | — |
| Level 2 → 3 | 11 | 2+ | 2+ | — | — | Firemaking I · 1★ · 2D |
| Level 3 → 4 | 50–75+ | 23+ | 9–12+ | — | 30+ | Firemaking II · 1.5★ · 2D |
| Level 4 → 5 | 70–120+ | 45+ | 19–25+ | 4+ | 30+ | Firemaking III · 1.5★ · 4D |
| Level 5 → 6 | 275–350+ | 170+ | 35+ | 8+ | 80+ | Firemaking IV · 2★ · 4D |
Cumulative total to reach Level 6: ~412–562+ Logs, 241+ Coal, 67+ Fuel Canisters, 12+ Oil Barrels, 141+ Biofuel (plus 1–2 Wood for the first step).
How to farm each material
Level 1 → 2
Easiest upgrade — do it on Day 3–4 before your first night scouting run. Coal drops from Bears and occasionally chests.
Level 2 → 3Firemaking I · 1★ · 2D
Fuel Canisters first appear in Iron and Common Chests — you should have 2+ by Day 5. Start stockpiling Logs now; later upgrades are very log-heavy.
Level 3 → 4Firemaking II · 1.5★ · 2D
The grind begins. Lumberjack class speeds Logs; Bears (and Alpha Wolves) are the best Coal source; Biofuel comes from Farm Plots growing the right crops.
Level 4 → 5Firemaking III · 1.5★ · 4D
Oil Barrels are the new bottleneck — they spawn in the Volcanic Biome (and Legendary Chests) and only open up at campfire Level 5–6. First upgrade tied to biome exploration.
Level 5 → 6Firemaking IV · 2★ · 4D
The biggest single resource sink in the game. Aim for Day 70–80. The 4 Diamonds are nice, but the real prize is the maximum safe zone for the run to Day 99.
Firemaking badges (12 Diamonds total)
Four badges, one per campfire level from 3 to 6. None are hard challenges — they mark natural progression — but together they pay 12 Diamonds, almost enough for the Lumberjack class that speeds the whole grind.
| Badge | Requirement | Stars | Diamonds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Firemaking I | Upgrade campfire to Level 3 | 1★ | 2D |
| Firemaking II | Upgrade campfire to Level 4 | 1.5★ | 2D |
| Firemaking III | Upgrade campfire to Level 5 | 1.5★ | 4D |
| Firemaking IV | Upgrade campfire to Level 6 | 2★ | 4D |
Special campfire flames
Flames are cosmetic campfire items with passive effects. They drop from Supply Crates, which you earn by completing Daily Quests, and you can keep up to 3 active per session. They are separate from the Modifier Flames of the Day 1 Supply Crate ritual.
Campfire tips most players learn late
- ▸Do the Level 1 → 2 upgrade on Day 3–4 — the wider safe zone gives you room to maneuver if The Deer gets close during early scouting.
- ▸Assign one player (or one player per day in multiplayer) purely to chopping trees; the Lumberjack class makes the log wall far less painful.
- ▸Build Farm Plots by Day 5–8 growing biofuel crops — Biofuel is a hard requirement from Level 3 → 4 onward and cannot be rushed.
- ▸If Coal is your bottleneck, run Bear and Alpha Wolf hunts rather than more chest looting — they drop Coal consistently.
- ▸Start collecting Oil Barrels the moment you see them in the Volcanic Biome; they only appear at campfire Level 5–6 and gate the final two upgrades.
- ▸The four Firemaking badges pay 12 Diamonds combined — enough to nearly unlock the Lumberjack class that makes the whole grind faster.
